Broncos coach Vic Fangio says some pre-draft visits are smoke screens

Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio confirmed at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday what many fans and pundits already knew: pre-draft visits should be taken with a grain of salt.

“Some guys you’re bringing in just to get a little bit of a better feel for them,” Fangio said of pre-draft visits. “Some guys you’re bringing in you feel like you have a lot of questions that you want to ask and get answered. It’s a different degree.

“Some of those guys you’re bringing in, you’re just bringing in as a smoke screen [emphasis added]. I wouldn’t get too enamored with who we’re bringing in or who the other 31 teams are bringing in. It could mean something, it might not mean something. I think guys that try and read the tea leaves on the draft drive themselves crazy.”

The list of players the Broncos will bring in for visits includes QBs Daniel JonesDwayne HaskinsKyler Murray and Drew Lock. Perhaps fans shouldn’t read into those visits too much.
