Broncos coach Vic Fangio provides updates on 3 injured players

Broncos coach Vic Fangio provided injury updates for tight end Jake Butt (knee), inside linebacker Todd Davis (calf) and guard Ron Leary (knee) before practice Monday.

Butt made his return to the field last week against the Rams after recovering from the third ACL tear of his football career. Butt caught two passes for 17 yards in Los Angeles.

“He came out good after the game,” Fangio said. “Just a little sore right now. He’s had some residual effects, which I think it’s to be expected to a degree. He got 11 or 12 plays the other night at a full speed tempo, which I don’t think he had practice more than 20 plays in the couple of days he had practiced. I was expecting some of that.

“We probably won’t see him practice today, give him an extra day off. Normally after a game you get two days off, although they’re here but you don’t hit the field. We’re going to give him that day right now.”

Fangio also said that Davis won’t practice this week.

“He’s progressing, but not at the rate we had hoped,” Fangio noted.

Fangio provided a positive update on Leary, stating that the guard should be ready for the team’s Sept. 9 season opener against the Raiders.

“He’s been improving with some of this time off that he’s been getting,” Fangio said. “I think he’ll be ready.”
