Broncos coach Vic Fangio part of NFL history — in a bad way

Four first-year head coaches in the NFL have a combined record of 0-15-1 through the first four games of the 2019 season.

Zac Taylor (Bengals), Brian Flores (Dolphins), Vic Fangio (Broncos) and Kliff Kingsbury (Cardinals) are all winless. Kingsbury has managed to at least get a tie.

This marks the first time in the 100 years of the NFL that four rookie head coaches have gone winless in their first four games, according to ESPN’s Trey Wingo.

The coaches are off to historic starts — just not the way they hoped they would be. Fortunately, most pundits agree that Fangio has been a little unlucky to begin the year.

“Vic Fangio deserves better than the 0-4 start he has in Denver,” Touchdown Wire’s Barry Werner wrote Tuesday. “The team easily could be 2-2, having lost twice on last-second field goals. That said, 0-4 is 0-4 and getting a first win in Week 5 won’t be easy.”

Up next for Fangio and the Broncos is a tough road game against the 2-2 Chargers in Week 5. Los Angeles has won two of its last three meetings against Denver, including a 23-9 victory on Dec. 30 last year.
