Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that “there’s a chance” outside linebacker Von Miller will miss the entire 2020 NFL season after suffering an ankle injury at Tuesday’s indoor practice.
“It’s too early to say for sure,” Fangio said. Miller will have several other doctors look at his injury before deciding if he’ll undergo surgery.
Fangio said Miller will go on injured reserve at some point. Once Miller is placed on injured reserve, the team will likely sign a free agent edge defender to take his place on the 53-man roster.
Denver might also consider trading for an outside linebacker. Jeremiah Attaochu and Malik Reed are the in-house candidates to replace Miller.
Attaochu, 27, is a former second-round pick who has totaled 15.5 sacks in his career. He played in 12 games last year as a replacement for an injured Bradley Chubb and recorded 21 tackles, 3.5 sacks and five QB hits.
Reed, 24, is a second-year player who joined the Broncos as a college free agent out of Nevada following last year’s draft. He played in 15 games last season, totaling 27 tackles, two sacks and five QB hits.
Denver will host the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Before Miller’s injury, the Broncos were listed as one-point favorites. The Titans are now considered 2.5-point favorites, according to BetMGM.
