Broncos coach Sean Payton comments on ‘frustrated’ WR Jerry Jeudy

Jerry Jeudy has had an eventful few weeks.

Two weeks after his public beef with ex-running back Phillip Lindsay and Ring of Fame wide receiver Rod Smith on social media, Jeudy was back in the spotlight before a Thursday Night Football game in Week 6.

Jeudy exchanged not-so-pleasant pleasantries with NFL Network’s Steve Smith before a game against the Chiefs. Smith then blasted the wide receiver on national television, stating that Jeudy is “mentally unable to handle constructive criticism.”

Jeudy has just 20 receptions for 222 yards and zero touchdowns through five games this season.

“He’s frustrated, I’m sure,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said Monday. “He’s a talented player. We need to continue to look for ways to get him throws — not only in the slot, but outside.

“The other stuff [off the field], I don’t try to keep track of as long as it’s not a distraction to what we’re doing as a team. That being said, he’s very competitive, he’s smart and he’s a playmaker for us. We have to continue to look for ways to put him in positions to make plays.”

Jeudy’s lack of involvement on offense has likely led to his frustration, and that frustration has likely contributed to outbursts directed toward former players in recent weeks. Payton says Denver needs to get the receiver more involved, but Jeudy’s role has been limited so far.

Of course, with the NFL’s trade deadline approaching, Jeudy might land with a new team in the coming weeks, potentially giving him an opportunity to earn more targets in a different scheme. He’s still a Bronco at the moment, though, and Jeudy will aim to make the most of his targets against the Packers on Sunday.
