The Denver Nuggets defeated the Boston Celtics 114-105 on Monday, securing their 47th win of the year and a playoff berth. That’s great news for Denver sports fans but as BSN Denver’s Ryan Koenigsberg pointed out on Twitter, it also means the Denver Broncos are closing in on the city’s longest active playoff drought.
(Koenigsberg said the Broncos had the longest drought but the Colorado Rapids of MLS haven’t made the playoffs since 2013.)
The Nuggets (NBA) have clinched a 2019 playoff spot, the Colorado Avalanche (NHL) reached the playoffs last year and the Colorado Rockies (MLB) made the playoffs last year. The Broncos have not reached the postseason since 2015.
Fortunately for the Broncos, the Rapids have been pretty bad in recent years, so they currently have the longest active drought. Vic Fangio, the Broncos’ new coach, will look to end the team’s streak of three straight years of missing the playoffs.
Getting back to the postseason will be a top goal for the 2019 Broncos.
