Broncos claim defensive lineman Jonathan Harris off waivers

The Denver Broncos have claimed defensive lineman Jonathan Harris off waivers from the Chicago Bears, the team announced Wednesday.

Harris (6-5, 295 pounds) will fill the roster spot that was created when the Broncos traded wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for third- and fourth-round picks.

Harris is an undrafted rookie out of NAIA Lindenwood who totaled 183 tackles, 22 sacks, four forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery during his time at the school. The 23-year-old defender spent part of the year on Chicago’s practice squad and dressed for two games.

Denver was looking to add more depth to the defensive line, working out Joel Heath and DeShawn Williams on Tuesday. Harris will join the Broncos’ defensive line room that includes Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell, Derek Wolfe, DeMarcus Walker, Dre’Mont Jones and Adam Gotsis.

Denver also added receiver/returner Kelvin McKnight to the practice squad Wednesday and waived offensive lineman Tyler Jones. The Broncos’ 53-man roster and 10-man practice squad are now both full.
