The Denver Broncos’ (7-9) season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs (11-5) has been flexed from Sunday, Jan. 9 up to Saturday, Jan. 8, the NFL announced Sunday evening.
The game was originally scheduled to be broadcast regionally on select CBS stations at 2:25 p.m. MT on Sunday. The AFC West showdown will now be nationally televised on ESPN (and ABC) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Broncos have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but the Chiefs are competing for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. With the Tennessee Titans (11-5) scheduled to play at 11:00 a.m. MT on Sunday, the NFL presumably did not want Kansas City to possibly rest their starters if the Titans lost before the Denver-KC game.
The league also flexed the Dallas Cowboys (11-5) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (9-7) game to Saturday at 6:15 p.m. MT (ESPN/ABC), and the Los Angeles Chargers (9-7) vs. Las Vegas Raiders (9-7) game to “Sunday Night Football” (NBC). The NFL won’t have a Monday game in Week 18.
