Broncos CB Ronald Darby talks Russell Wilson, Super Bowl expectations

Entering Year 2 with the Denver Broncos, Ronald Darby is settling in as a sturdy secondary option at cornerback as the projected No. 2 cornerback behind his second-year standout counterpart Patrick Surtain.

Instead of Bryce Callahan at nickel cornerback, though, it’s K’Waun Williams manning the position next season. Add in safeties Justin Simmon and Kareem Jackson and it’s basically business as usual for the Broncos’ defense. Newly-hired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, who is a part of former coach Vic Fangio’s coaching tree, is ushering in a similar 3-4 defense next season as well.

Oh, and by the way, the Broncos acquired Russell Wilson on offense, giving the team the seventh-best Super Bowl odds in the NFL this year.

Speaking about Wilson last week, Darby said, “I’ve played against him a couple [of] times. We never won, even the year [Philadelphia] won the Super Bowl and we played [Seattle on] Sunday night — they beat us. But just to see how hard he works, he’s the same every day. He comes in here, has his football pants on, walking around. He’s ready to work.”

Wilson’s arrival has put the Broncos back in Super Bowl contention, but it’s not just Wilson that has Darby expecting big things this fall.

“Each year, no matter what team I’m on, of course everyone wants to win a Super Bowl, but we do have the team,” Darby said. “We have the QB, the wide receivers, the running backs, the defense. So from there, just continue to work each day. OTAs, like, everyone is here, everyone is getting better.”

Denver will begin organized team activities later this month followed by minicamp in June and training camp in late July.
