Broncos CB Chris Harris on trade rumors: ‘I want to be here’

The Broncos traded wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to the 49ers last week and there has been speculation that cornerback Chris Harris could be on the trade block as well. Both players are in the final years of their contracts so it would make sense for Denver to get draft picks for them now.

Harris was not dealt before Sunday’s game against the Colts but he was aware of the rumors.

“I’m not going to lie to you, it was the hardest week for me,” Harris said after a 15-13 loss to the Colts. “Hardest week to focus. It was hard to play the game, but I got through it and I thought I played solid today so trying to give our team a chance to win.”

Harris will earn $9.8 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020. The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday and the cornerback knows there’s still a chance that he could be traded. Harris hopes to remain in Denver, though.

“I have a bay coming in a couple days, so I want to be here for my baby,” Harris said, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. “I definitely want to continue to pay here. I have no issues here . . . . But it’s up to them upstairs, I can’t really control it.”

Harris signed with Denver as a college free agent out of Kansas following the 2011 NFL draft. The four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl 50 champion has totaled 484 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 20 interceptions in his career.
