Broncos CB Bryce Callahan progressing in his recovery

Four weeks ago, Denver Broncos cornerback Bryce Callahan had a procedure done to try to speed up the recovery of his foot. It sounds like the cornerback is still at least two weeks away from a potential return.

“He’s progressing,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday. “Obviously, he’s not progressing enough to where you’ll see him out here running, but it wasn’t planned to be.

“From the day he got it, we knew it was going to be — four to six is what we told you. It was really closer to six than four. He’s another guy, even if it does him well and he can play, the conditioning level is a factor.”

Fangio was then asked if Callahan might not play this year.

“That’s possible,” the coach said. “That’s not the hope, but that is definitely possible.”

The fact that Denver hasn’t placed Callahan on injured reserve seems like a sign that the team is optimistic that the cornerback might be able to return late in the season. Callahan signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Broncos this offseason and is yet to play in a single game.
