Broncos cancel final minicamp practice, give players chance to dunk John Elway

The Denver Broncos were scheduled to hold their third and final minicamp practice on Thursday morning. Instead, new coach Vic Fangio canceled the on-field portion of practice and set up a field day for the players.

“It was actually funny because Vic said, he flipped the slide that said ‘No practice’ and nobody believed him so it was dead quiet,” safety Justin Simmons said in a video interview with the team’s official media team.

“And then he followed through and was like, ‘No, for real, no practice,’ and we all started cheering.”

Then the coach split the players into teams for the day’s activities.

The activities, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala, included a home run derby, a remote-control car race, a basketball shootout, a water-balloon toss, a golf chipping contest and a dunk tank.

Broncos general manager John Elway was in the tank . . .

Players will now have a summer break before reporting back to the team’s facility for the start of training camp in mid-July.
