Broncos can’t talk to media about Joe Flacco trade at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade a fourth-round draft pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Joe Flacco and while the quarterback has already taken his physical in Denver, the deal won’t become official until the new league year begins on March 14.

Because the veteran quarterback is technically still under contract with the Ravens, Broncos general manager John Elway and head coach Vic Fangio can’t comment about him joining their team.

So when Elway and Fangio speak to media members about the NFL combine this week, they’re going to be vague about Flacco or brush off the topic altogether. If presented the right way — such as, what do you think about Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco? — questions about the QB could be answered, but not in relation to him coming to Denver.

And while fellow quarterback Case Keenum is under contract with the Broncos, Elway and Fangio will probably give soft answers about him, too. Denver is expected to trade Keenum but the team’s front office may say something along the lines of, “He’s still under contract.”

Broncos fans should probably prepare for a lot of non-answers.
