Broncos bring back RB David Williams, cut OL Nathan Jacobson

The Denver Broncos have signed running back David Williams, the team announced Friday. To make room for Williams on the 90-man offseason roster, the Broncos waived offensive lineman Nathan Jacobson.

Williams (6-1, 229 pounds) was selected by Denver over Phillip Lindsay in the seventh round of last year’s NFL draft (the Broncos later signed Lindsay as an undrafted free agent). Williams ended up not making the 53-man roster but Denver did sign him to the 10-man practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Williams off the Broncos’ practice squad in October and he spent the final six weeks of the season with the Jags. Williams rushed eight times for 36 yards in Jacksonville. Despite his 4.5 yards per carry average, the Jaguars decided to move on from Williams in May.

Denver’s top running backs are Lindsay, Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker. Williams will likely be competing with Khalfani Muhammad and Devontae Jackson for the fourth RB spot.
