Broncos are ‘very pleased’ with rookie LB Justin Hollins

Justin Hollins played primarily outside linebacker during his time at Oregon but the Broncos’ fifth-round draft pick will be asked to learn both outside and inside linebacker positions in Denver’s 3-4 defense.

So far, so good for the young defender.

“He’s doing a nice job,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said after wrapping up rookie minicamp Sunday. “I think he’s done a nice job of learning both spots.

“I think he’s ready to go out there and plug in with the veterans and see if he can continue his good work. Very pleased with what he was able to do from a mental standpoint these three days.”

Hollins spent some time at inside linebacker during a spring all-star game, helping him prepare for his transition with Denver.

“[As an inside linebacker], you have to see where the back is,” Hollins said on May 11. “You have to know what the guard does on the snap of the ball. You have to key people. There’s just a lot more going on on the inside than there is on the outside.”

Thanks to his versatility, Hollins will provide valuable depth for the Broncos on the outside and inside. That will greatly improve his chances of getting on the field as a rookie.
