Broncos announce 2 practice squad moves

The Denver Broncos have signed rookie wide receiver/returner Kelvin McKnight to their practice squad, the team announced Wednesday. To make room for McKnight on the 10-man practice squad, the team released offensive lineman Tyler Jones.

Denver wanted to add more depth at receiver after agreeing to trade Emmanuel Sanders to the 49ers on Tuesday. McKnight won’t be eligible to play while on the practice squad but he will be available for promotion to the active roster if the Broncos feel thin at the position.

Trinity Benson is another receiver option on the practice squad.

McKnight (5-8, 186 pounds) set school records at Samford for receptions (313), receiving yards (4,144) and touchdown catches (32) before signing with Denver as a college free agent this spring. He failed to make the 53-man roster and spent one week on the New England Patriots’ practice squad before being cut again.

McKnight returned eight punts in preseason, a sign that he will provide emergency depth both at receiver and returner. He wears No. 16.
