Broncos agree to trade for Titans DL Jurrell Casey

The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade a late-round draft pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive lineman Jurrel Casey, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Denver went into free agency planning to shore up the defensive line. After missing out on D.J. Reader and Quinton Jefferson, the Broncos worked out a deal with Tennessee to acquire Jurrell.

Casey (6-1, 305 pounds) entered the league as a third-round pick out of USC with the Titans in 2011. He quickly emerged as a starter in Tennessee and has been one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL over the last nine seasons.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Casey has totaled 493 tackles and 51 sacks in his career. He will likely play as a defensive end in Denver’s 3-4 defense.

By trading for Casey, the Broncos are agreeing to also acquire his contract, which has three years remaining. The 30-year-old defensive lineman will have a salary cap hit of $11,787,500 this season, according to Spotrac.com.

He will have cap hits of $12.281 million in 2021 and $13.85 million in 2022. To create more cap space for Casey, Denver will likely move on from quarterback Joe Flacco by the end of the week.
