Broncos agree to a deal in principle for Joe Flacco

The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the teams who many associated with former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco due to their need for a signal-caller as they’ll reportedly be moving on from Blake Bortles. However, it appears those discussions within the media will now be put to rest as Flacco will reportedly be traded to the Denver Broncos. The two teams agreed to a deal in principle to move the veteran quarterback for what NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed to be a mid-round pick.

Flacco, 34, entered the season as the Ravens No. 1 quarterback, but due to sustaining a hip injury in November, the team had to turn to first round pick Lamar Jackson, who led them to a 3-1 record in Flacco’s absence. By the time Flacco was healthy enough to return, the Ravens had a ton of momentum and stuck with the rookie, which ultimately marked the end of Flacco’s time as the Ravens starter.

Flacco’s transaction now takes the Broncos out of the Nick Foles sweepstakes which is good for the Jags if they want him. Additionally, it could make a bidding war less likely for Foles, which could drop his price if he’s a free agent if teams like the New York Giants and Washington Redskins don’t get overly aggressive. All that said, Foles may not have a choice but to lower his asking price with his market thinning out, which would allow the Jags to get him on a reasonable contract and perhaps still add a rookie to learn from him.
