Broncos agree to 4-year contract with rookie TE Albert Okwuegbunam

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with rookie tight end Albert Okwuegbunam on a four-year contract.

Okwuegbunam’s contract is expected to have a signing bonus of $749,040 and a total value of $4,044,040, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. His signing bonus will be prorated over the four years of his contract for salary cap purposes.

Okwuegbunam (6-5, 258 pounds) caught 98 passes for 1,187 yards and 23 touchdowns during his three seasons at Missouri. While playing with Broncos quarterback Drew Lock from 2017-2018, Okwuegbunam caught 17 touchdown passes.

Okwuegbunam, the team’s fourth-round pick, will compete with Nick Vannett for the team’s No. 2 tight end position behind starter Noah Fant. Jake Butt, Austin Fort, Troy Fumagalli and Jeff Heuerman will also be competing for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Denver’s draft class will have combined salary cap hits of $9,980,665 but the net cap hit will be closer to $3,219,217. After signing their draft class, the Broncos will have about $13,837,021 in remaining salary cap space.
