The Denver Broncos agreed to re-sign linebacker Joe Jones to a one-year deal on Wednesday, according to KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck. The contract cannot become official until Jones passes a physical.
Jones (6-0, 240 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017. After failing to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster, he spent time on the practice squads of the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks before joining the Broncos.
After landing in Denver, Jones won a role on special teams and appeared in seven games in 2017. The next season, he emerged as a key special teams player and recorded 15 tackles as a rotational linebacker on defense.
Jones remained one of the Broncos’ top special teams players last year and totaled eight tackles on defense. He led the Broncos in special teams tackles in 2019 (8) and 2018 (11). Jones wears jersey No. 43.
