A woman has died after a collision with a marked police car as it responded to a 999 call in south-east London.

The pedestrian, 57, was struck in the road at a junction near Farnborough shortly before 4pm on Thursday.

She was flown by air ambulance to an east London hospital but was pronounced dead at about 9.30am on Friday.

Her next of kin have been informed, police said.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), confirmed it has launched an investigation into the collision.

"The police car was responding to a call when it struck a woman in the road at the junction of Farnborough Common and Crofton Road," a spokesman said.

"The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries and sadly died at approximately 9.30am this morning (Friday 2 August).

"Following notification from the Metropolitan Police Service, we sent investigators to the scene and to the post incident procedures.

"We have made initial contact with the woman's family and our investigation is progressing."
