New app Rentbrella is expanding to London
(Picture: PA)Never leave your prized brolly on the Tube again as a new rental umbrella service pops up across the capital.
New app Rentbrella - which is expanding across the rainiest cities in the world including Sao Paolo, New York and now London - has placed its umbrella rental stations across sites at the wettest spots including Earls Court, Fleet Street, Shoreditch and Victoria.
The app operates like popular bike rental services with a map on your phone pointing you to your closest parasol and doesn’t charge for the first 24 hours.
A £2 per day fee is charged on the second and third days.
If the umbrella is not returned by the end of the third day the user will be charged £16 but will be allowed to keep it.
The umbrellas themselves are made of recycled plastic bottles and offer UV protection against rare sunny spells with a strong fibreglass structure to protect Londoners from the capital’s whipping wind.
Rentbrella plans to make money by selling advertising space on the umbrellas.
Freddy Marcos, Co-founder of Rentbrella said they were hoping to keep 98 per cent of their rentals free to Londoners.
He said: “One of the motivations for the expansion of Rentbrella is the desire to make it easier for as many people as possible to relate to the climate and the city.”
