Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa provided depth for Notre Dame's defensive line.
The No. 12 Irish will be without the sophomore reserve defensive tackle for about 10 weeks after he suffered a broken foot (fifth metatarsal) in Saturday night's 24-17 win against No. 14 Michigan.
"We'll lose him for a considerable amount of time," Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said during a teleconference Sunday. "It's disappointing, obviously, for Myron. He's an outstanding player.
"We're hopeful we'll get maybe some play out of him at the end of the year."
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Tagovailoa-Amosa played in all 13 games last season and made 12 tackles, including 1 { tackles for loss.
Irish Illustrated first reported the right foot injury.
Freshman Jayson Ademilola and Bolingbrook's Micah Dew-Treadway are among the players in line for a larger role backing up Jerry Tillery.
"Jayson will be put in a high-leverage situation," Kelly said. "Micah Dew-Treadway will get some snaps. We'll cross train (nose guard) Jonathan Bonner, as well. That's probably the plan of attack."
Ademilola had one tackle Saturday.
"We have a lot of confidence in Jayson," Kelly said. "He's ready to play really good football for us."
