'Broken' family pay tribute to Motherwell flat stab victim as police probe murder

Tributes have been paid to a Rangers supporter who was brutally stabbed to death in a flat.

Tragic Terry Smith, 30, was found a Motherwell high-rise flat by police in the early hours of this morning after officers were called to a disturbance.

There they found Terry with serious injuries but he passed away a short time later inside the flat in Doonside Tower. 

Detectives have launched a murder hunt but said they are following a positive line of enquiry.

Today his aunt, Bobbie Duff, took to social media to pay tribute to her nephew.

She wrote: "Do people that carry knives not understand they ruin lives. My family have been torn apart because  of ***** using knives.

"Don’t understand how this could happen....I'm at a loss my poor sister is broken.”

Cousin Alex Smith wrote: “RIP terry cuz will be missed by family and friend and u will always be in our hearts fly high.” 

Friend Emma Dollochin wrote: "Such a sad sad world we're living in these days.

"Another one taken far too soon. Fly high Terry, you will be sorely missed by everyone."

It's understood police raced to the scene after reports from neighbours of a disturbance.

Several emergency services were spotted in the area by locals as officers descended on the property.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We are currently following a positive line of enquiry on this incident.

"If you have any information on this incident phone 101 quoting incident number 408 of August 13."
