Mindless vandals are causing a health hazard for youngsters in a Lanarkshire play park.
Concerned parents in Cambuslang are concerned over the amount of debris at the kids area in Quarryfield Park, just off Dukes Road, in Cambuslang.
One child was recently injured due to broken glass being left scattered around.
Now parents are appealing for locals to clean up their act and give their children somewhere to play.
One concerned parent told Lanarkshire Live: "The park is nice and frequented by many families.
"But it's often overrun by local youth who defecate, urinate, drink alcohol, damage the play area and smash glass bottles and leave drug paraphernalia lying around. My daughter once picked up a used condom on the ground - it was disgusting to see that lying there.
"She's been injured by all the broken glass left lying around too, and at other times all the swings have been destroyed. There's no sense of community or consideration."
Police Scotland and South Lanarkshire Council have been approached for a comment, but so far have not gotten back to us.
A second local parent added: "It's just the usual story of a few wee idiots ruining it for the rest.
"I think a lot of it is this year is teenagers have been cooped up so much during lockdown, that once they got let loose and back to school, they've been overdoing the blowing off steam.
"They don't realise the effects they're having on people around them, in that they don't realise as a large group of now young men how intimidating they can be when they're shouting and swearing.
"The ones smashing bottles maybe don't really realise that other people have to come along and clear it up or stop to think that another kid or pet dog might actually be hurt by this.
"I'd hope if the Council could invest in more new equipment then maybe there would be some more consideration to what's there."
Anyone who sees any vandalism or anti-social behavior should report it to the community police on 101.
Inspector Kevin Miller, of Rutherglen police office, said: ""In relation to the the smashing of glass bottles in the play park areas I would urge members of the public to be considerate when disposing of litter and to be particularly mindful of the consequences of broken glass and sharps being left in a children's play area.
"Community police officers will be carrying out additional foot patrols over the next few weeks and throughout the summer holidays to provide a deterrent to such anti-social behaviour and allow the parks and open spaces to be enjoyed in a responsible manner by all members of the community."
