Brodie Spencer aiming to be 'touch perfect' at Huddersfield Town

Northern Ireland teenager Brodie Spencer has revealed the 'touch perfect' mentality he has adopted at Huddersfield Town.

The former Cliftonville Academy youngster joined the Terriers back in the summer alongside Glentoran Academy graduate Conor Falls.

The 16-year-old defender has been earning encouraging reviews since moving across the water, playing for Huddersfield's Under 17s and also featuring for the club's U19s.

Speaking to Huddersfield's official website htfc.com, Spencer revealed the technical improvements he had made since joining the club.

“Since I came to Huddersfield, I think I have really improved on my technical ability because I am playing with and against better players," he told htfc.com.

“If my touch isn’t right or if it’s a sloppy pass, you will get the ball taken off you straight away. Every pass and touch have to be perfect and I think I am adapting to that well.

“The coaches have helped me a lot because they help me pinpoint my weaknesses. That helps me realise what I need to focus on and improve on.

“At Cliftonville the standard is decent, but when you come here it is a completely different level. Everyone is faster, stronger and technically good on the ball so when I am coming up against players here it is a lot harder.”

Spencer also praised Northern Ireland's youth set-up, having represented his country at Under 16 level.

He described the experience of getting called up as "one of the best feelings ever".

Spencer added: “That experience was unreal. As a kid, everyone wants to play for their country so getting the call up to Northern Ireland was one of the best feelings ever. Stepping onto the pitch and playing for them was unbelievable.

“Without the whole Northern Ireland setup, I don’t think I would’ve been where I am today. Honestly, they just teach you all the fundamentals about moving away, how you need to be in and around the training ground and what you need to do once you go over. It really helped me.”
