Brocksbushes' first strawberry crop goes on sale bringing a taste of summer

Offering a welcome taste of summer, the first of the year's strawberries are now available to buy at Brocksbushes Farm in Northumberland.

The farm, near Corbridge, has just hand-picked its early crop of fruit and punnets are now on sale in its on-site shop - with social distancing measures in place - as well as online.

To help serve customers during the coronavirus crisis, Brocksbushes launched a virtual version of its popular farm shop, selling the likes of corned beef pie and scones alongside daily fruit and vegetable essentials, with shoppers able to order and pay online and then opt for delivery - if they have a local postcode - or for collection.

And now that ready-to-eat strawberries have been added to the mix - at £2.99 for a 1lb punnet - the local business is set to prove extra-busy.

A spokesman called the new arrivals "the perfect summer treat", adding: "Grown right here in Northumberland, on the Brocksbushes Farm, you can’t get fresher, more delicious - in our opinion - local strawberries."

Brocksbushes, which usually offers pick-your-own fruit options in the summer, points out that its fields are not yet open.

Customers can, however, visit its shop from 9.30am daily or those wanting to arrange contactless collection or delivery can see here.

Delivery is free on orders over £50. For the list of local postcodes covered by the service see here.
