Brock Commodore sells for more than $1m

Grays says a car that sold for more than $1 million may be the most sought after Peter Brock car. (AAP)

A classic Holden Commodore, once owned by racing great Peter Brock, has sold for more than $1 million at auction.

The 1985 VK Group A car was the one Brock drove during the build and release of the now highly collectible VK Group A series.

It was later sold to a family who drove it only on special occasions before putting it up for sale.

"This could possibly be the most sought after and collectible Brock Holden Dealer Team car ever built," auctioneers Grays said.

Bidding for the car rose from a modest $3759 less than a week ago before hitting $1 million late on Monday with the final price of $1,057,509 when the auction closed on Tuesday night.

The V8 Commodore has travelled just over 77,000 kilometres and features a 4.9 litre engine paired to a manual gearbox.

The blue exterior paint and light blue interior were both listed as in good condition for the car's age.
