Broadway Market set to be turned into inflatable theme park

A former Liverpool market is set to be reopened as an inflatable theme park.

Norris Green's Broadway Market closed in 2014 after Liverpool council said it couldn't afford to continue to operate the loss-making site.

But now planning permission has been given for plans to bring the empty building back into use.

There are already other indoor inflatable theme parks in Merseyside but it is believed this will be the first of its kind in Liverpool.

A report submitted with the application says the park 'will be aimed at children from age 5 to 14/15' and that they don't expect adults to take part.

It says: "The proposed opening hours would be during term time/weekdays 12-8pm and on weekends and school holidays 9am-8pm.

"They are targeting the local area and are familiar with the local area who are within walking distance and most don’t drive, so even if coming from 5-10 minute drive away they would expect them to take a taxi or a bus.

"Customers would have a one hour visit to the attraction and during off peak times they could if they wish pay for another hour."

Around £200,000 will be spent converting the old market, according to the report.

The application does not name who will run the new theme park but says that they have experience hiring out bouncy castles across the North West and are looking to expand their business.

At the time it closed the council said Broadway Market was losing more than £100,000 a year, with only 20 traders based in the market.

Other markets in the city have also struggled in recent years, with concerns being raised over the future of St John's Market and the relocated Liverpool Fruit and Veg Market .
