Broadmeadow Magic will consider an appeal over the weekend after midfielder Keanu Moore was handed a six-game suspension on Friday for his part in a post-game altercation last month.
Moore and Charlestown's Regan Lundy were charged with bringing the game into disrepute for the April 10 clash on the street outside Lisle Carr Oval following the round three 1-0 Northern NSW NPL win to Broadmeadow. The pair faced a Northern NSW Football disciplinary Zoom meeting hearing on Wednesday night.
Lundy took the early guilty plea at the hearing, accepting an eight-match ban for his role, but Moore pleaded not guilty when offered a six-game suspension.
The sanction remained unchanged when a guilty finding was forwarded to Magic at 3pm on Friday. Like Charlestown, Broadmeadow were fined $500.
Broadmeadow officials were planning to discuss the possibility of an appeal with Moore over the weekend.
The post-game altercation came after Moore and Lundy had clashed on the pitch. Lundy was shown a straight red card in the 17th minute for violent conduct and Moore was issued a yellow.
Lundy, who has already served a two-game suspension for the send-off, started his new sanction on Friday night when Azzurri played Lake Macquarie in round six at Macquarie Field.
Moore's ban starts when unbeaten league leaders Broadmeadow (13 points) host second-last Adamstown (three) on Sunday at Magic Park (2.30pm).
Magic will also be without Jacob Harris, who is suspended after his send-off against Valentine in round five.
Also on Sunday at 2.30pm, Weston (nine) will welcome back key players when they travel to Jack McLaughlan Oval to take on defending champions Edgeworth (six).
The Bears bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Magic to end Maitland's winning start to the season 1-0 last round and they have Zac Sneddon, Chris Hurley, Liam Wilson and Joey O'Connor to boost their stocks.
Sneddon is back from injury, Hurley missed Weston's FFA Cup win with an ankle problem, Wilson has served a two-game suspension and O'Connor has joined the Bears from Maitland in the window for roster changes.
Former Eagles centre-back Mitch Dobson is another addition and he will start training next week. Weston, though, have lost Jackson Burston to Lakes and Cooper Buswell (knee) has not played this season.
Bears assistant coach Anthony Richards said the win over Maitland was "a real confidence booster" and the squad was building.
"This is probably the first time we've got a strong and balanced squad to pick from and we've got some headaches to pick the team," Richards said. "And we've timed it against potentially the best team in the comp, who are probably off to a bit of a slow start, but they are a top-two side, and at Edgeworth, it will be tough."
Maitland (12) host last-placed Valentine (one) at Cooks Square Park (4.30pm). On Saturday, Lambton Jaffas (12) welcome Olympic (nine) to Edden Oval (2.30pm).
