Brixton Village announces Eat Out to Help Out-style campaign for April opening

Drawing a crowd: the market is hoping the move will encourage Londoners to come out

Brixton Village has announced a new Eat Out To Help Out-style campaign for the first three days of lockdown lifting in April.

From April 12–14, when restaurants are allowed to open for al fresco eating and non-essential retail can return, the #BackToBrixton drive will offer diners a 50 per cent discount on food, up to the value of £10 per person. Like the Government’s EOTHO launch last summer, alcohol will be excluded from the offer.

The cost of the scheme will be shared between Hondo Enterprises, the area’s landlord, and the market’s restaurants, which include Kamone, Sarap, Jalisco and Fish, Wings & Tings.

Those running the market say reopening will come with strict health and safety measures, including frequent staff testing, increased security and signage, and thorough cleaning measures.

Diana Nabagereka, the general manager of Brixton Village said:  “Reopening safely on April 12 is our number one priority.

“We are eager to welcome back our remaining retail and hospitality businesses for external dining, but equally keen to reassure our visitors of our ongoing steps to create and keep a safe environment for all.”

This weekend, Robert Jenrick announced restaurants, pubs and bars will be permitted to pop up marquees without planning permission, a move that its thought will benefit 9,000 businesses and encourage more businesses to open in April, rather than May.
