A teenager was rushed hospital after being attacked with a bottle attack in the latest violence to hit London.

Police were called to Gresham Road in Brixton to reports of a male injured in an assault.

Officers and paramedics attended and found the boy with a number of injuries caused by a bottle. The weapon was recovered from the scene.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital. His injuries were not life threatening.

The attack happened just after 9.30pm on Thursday. No arrests have been made.

It came as the Met was facing increasing pressure to get a grip of London’s crimewave over the past 10 days.

It has seen five people stabbed to death, while there have been other instances of knife victims sustaining life threatening injuries.

On Thursday, Met commissioner Cressida Dick declared war on the capital’s 190 gangs fuelling the crimewave, promising to “relentlessly” target them.

Her comments came after home secretary Sajid Javid urged Scotland Yard to “step up the police response”, including stop and search, to end the bloodshed.
