Brits who sleep on right side of bed get hot at night and wake up exhausted, poll finds

In breaking snooze... we can reveal that if you often feel like you got out of the wrong side of the bed, chances are you sleep on the right.

A study found only 60% of people who sleep on the right side of the bed – as you are lying on your back in it – have a glass half-full outlook, compared to 66% of left-hand sleepers.

In the poll, 32% of right-side sleepers said they woke exhausted, compared with 27% who kip on the left.

Almost 50% of right-hand sleepers also complained of getting too hot in the night, compared with 40% on the left. The survey of 1,500 adults by British Wool also found that on average, we wake up at least three times a night.

Money worries kept 33% awake while for 20% it was fretting about work. But 60% of us are snorers who might be to blame for keeping partners awake.

Julia Robinson, of British Wool, who commissioned the research said: “We are creatures of habit when it comes to sleeping. Meaning sleepless nights and hourly wake-ups seem common for a lot of us, especially right-sided sleepers.

“Making small changes, like using wool bedding, can help to aid night sweats as wool helps regulate your body temperature. The wool fibres breathe naturally, absorbing moisture from the atmosphere and then releasing it when it’s drier, resulting in better and longer sleep."
