The Foreigh & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued a warning to any Brits heading to Tunisia, advising them to avoid the country due to increased risk of terror attacks.
Last month saw two suicide bombings in the capital, Tunis, which left one person dead along with multiple casualties.
Tunisian killed a wanted terrorist earlier this week, who was wearing an explosive belt.
According to The Mirror, the FCO are warning Brits that terrorists are very likely to attempt further attacks in Tunisia.
The FCO have highlighted that the country has been in a state of extended emergency since 2015, which was renewed on June 5.
The government body also asks that Brits be vigilant if they are travelling, particularly in certain types of locations.
It explains: "Crowded areas, government installations, transportation networks, businesses with Western interests, and areas where foreign nationals and tourists are known to gather may be at higher risk of attack.
"You should be particularly vigilant in these areas and follow any specific advice of the local security authorities. In more remote areas of the country, including tourist sites in southern Tunisia, security forces’ response times to an incident may vary."
It also adds: "There’s a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation interests. Additional security measures have been in place on flights departing from Tunisia to the UK since March 2017. You should co-operate fully with security officials."
Tunisia saw its tourism numbers plunge following the Tunisia hotel attack in Sousse in June 2015 which left 38 holidaymakers dead – 30 of whom were British.
The FCO warned Brits against travelling to the North African country at the time.
However, the FCO changed its advice in February 2018 re-opening parts of the country to Brits, and the destination has been making a comeback.
In fact earlier this year Thomas Cook revealed in its its annual Holiday Report that its package bookings to Tunisia have doubled in 2019 compared to 2018, while flight-only bookings are up four-fold.
