Brits warned about ‘explosive diarrhoea’ cyclospora infection

• The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) recorded 67 cases across England , Wales and Scotland between 30 April and 15 July 2026, with 48 linked to travel in Mexico.
• Symptoms include severe gastrointestinal issues like 'explosive diarrhoea' and vomiting, though infections are generally not life-threatening.
• Many affected individuals had stayed at all-inclusive resorts in Mexico's Riviera Maya and Cancún regions, consuming various food and drink.
• UKHSA advises travellers to Mexico to practise stringent food and water hygiene, including avoiding uncooked berries, herbs, unpeeled fruit, and salad items, to reduce infection risk.
