Brits unable to order lateral flow tests from Government as 'no more' are available

The Government has 'no more' at-home rapid lateral flow testing kits available for the public to order to their homes, a day before it brings in a stricter testing requirement in response to the Omicron variant's spread.

Lateral flow tests are usually available to order for home delivery for free from Gov.uk.

But people hoping to order kits this week were unable to on Monday morning.

A message on the Gov.uk order lateral flow tests page reads: "There are no more home tests available.

"Sorry, there are no more home testing kits available right now.

"Try again later.

"Or, you can go back and try to book a test site appointment instead."

The lack of tests coincides with a rule change on Tuesday which will mean more people have to take daily Covid-19 tests.

ChronicleLive has contacted the UK Health Security Agency to find out when more tests will be available. The Department for Health and Social Care declined to comment.

From Tuesday December 14, people who are fully vaccinated are required to take a lateral flow test every seven days if they are identified as a contact with someone who has Covid-19, regardless of what strain it is. Those are are unvaccinated must self-isolate for 10 days if they are identified as a contact.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said: "The Omicron variant is quickly gaining ground in the UK and is expected to become the dominant strain by mid-December.

"We are taking this proportionate and more practical measure to limit the impact on people’s day to day lives while helping to reduce the spread of Omicron.

"Vaccines remain our best defence and I urge anyone yet to get a first and second jab to come forward and those eligible for a booster to get boosted as soon as possible."

Free lateral flow tests are also available from pharmacies and some employers.
