Brits spend £1BILLION replacing holiday items they forgot to pack

We've all been there; you get to your hotel, unpack your bags and realise you've left that essential item back at home.

Of course in most cases it's not particularly stressful as you can just pop to nearby shops and pick up a replacement.

But research from Travelodge has revealed that this comes with a high price as Brits are collectively spending £1BILLION on replacing those forgotten items.

That's because 67 per cent of UK holidaymakers are forgetting to pack two essential items for their trips, despite dedicating nearly a day to packing.

On average Brits will spend an average of £35 to replace things they already own.

Key items include a toothbrush, phone charger, sunglasses, perfume/aftershave, swimwear, sandals, toiletries, books, toys for the children and sun cream.

That can all add up especially when you consider that Brits already spend an average £142 on new purchases for their holidays such as clothing, shoes, accessories and even gadgets.

To give you a helping hand this summer, Travelodge has put together a few suitcase packing tips that could help you ensure you've got everything you need.

Check out their top tips below...

Travelodge's top packing tips

  1. List it: Make a list of everything you need and use it as a check list to review your case.
  2. Colour schemes: Choose one or two colour clothing schemes so you can easily mix and match, and plan your outfits before packing.
  3. Roll it: Rolling your clothes maximises space and minimises wrinkles. Pack heavier items at the bottom of the case and more delicate items on top.
  4. Section it: Divide your clothes and items into sections so you can see what you have too much of, and what you may have missed.
  5. See-through bags: Invest in see-through bags and group small items together such as toiletries, chargers and beach items so that they are easy to find.
  6. Charge it: Invest in one compatible charger for all your devices and take a portable battery pack to ensure your gadgets are charged throughout your trip.
