Brits reveal top reasons why they aren't going abroad this summer

The summer holidays are nearly upon us but for some Brits, heading abroad isn't as appealing as it once was.

In fact, new research by MoneySuperMarket has revealed that one in five British families are choosing not to go on holiday this summer.

The top reason? It all comes down to the cost.

With prices notoriously hiked up during the summer school holidays, 65 per cent of Brits surveyed said that it's just too expensive.

(The good news is that there are ways of finding deals in July and August if you are on a budget!)

The team at MoneySuperMarket suggests creating a budget that works for you; they suggest working out a personal budget to see how much money is coming in and going out of your household, which can make it easier to plan for future spending.

Another top tip includes making sure you're not overpaying for essentials.

For example, review your energy supplier and insurance providers to make sure you're getting the best deals - switching can take a few minutes and you could save precious cash that can go towards your holiday budget.

But for some Brits it's not about the price tag, but rather the hassle of organising the trip itself and getting the whole family there.

Annual leave also proved to be a roadblock for Brits. In fact, the third reason was that most Brits can't get the time off work - or if they can, their partner can't for the same time period.

For some Brits, a simple disinterest is the reason, with six per cent saying they'd prefer to stay at home during their time off.

Leaving it too late was also listed as a key factor in why Brits don't head abroad - although it's worth noting that there are plenty of last minute holidays if you are feeling a little spontaneous.

Of course just because we're not going abroad doesn't mean Brits aren't enjoying any holidays.

In fact, two in five families are planning to take a staycation, with factors including price, family traditions and the ease if you're travelling with children.
