Brits reveal their favourite invention of the last 25 years

Wireless internet has been crowned the greatest invention of the last 25 years.

Often taken for granted, wi-fi beat smartphones into second.

It was chosen by 48% of Brits in a poll to find the best thing since sliced bread, compared with 41% who felt mobiles like Apple’s iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy had made the biggest difference to our lives.

Online banking was the third most popular, with search engines fourth and internet shopping fifth.

According to the survey of 2,000 Brits, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, world wide web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg were admired as modern day visionaries.

The study also found more than half of adults felt an invention had to improve lives in order to go down in history.

Six in 10 said the health sector should be a priority for breakthrough medical inventions.

A spokesman for training firm Product Focus, who commissioned the study, said: “In the last couple of decades innovations like wi-fi and search engines are great examples of products that have become vital and beneficial parts of everyday life.

“We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the UK.”
