With foreign holidays off the agenda for millions this year, Brits have rediscovered the beauty of their own country.
And the home soil love affair is on course to continue as interest in staycation for next year soars.
Inquiries about breaks in Britain for 2022 are up by 74% with families still facing uncertainty over foreign travel amid rising Covid cases.
Website Host Unusual, which lists quirky accommodation such as tree houses and windmills, said demand was sky high among people left impressed by the UK resorts, countryside and historical spots.
Independent Cottages said interest was up 25% year-on-year, in what could be a boost to the economy as left impressed by the beaches.
Pitchup.com said it had taken thousands of booking for 2022 camping and glamping holidays.
Founder Dan Yates added: “Huge numbers of Brits have taken their first ever camping, caravan or glamping holiday and were delighted by what they found.”
Self-catering firm Under the Thatch, which has holiday homes in Wales, said many of its bookings for next year are returning families.
Director Greg Stevenson, added: “People have rediscovered just how wonderful Britain and Ireland are, and they’ll be back. I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard people say they wished they’d come to Wales sooner.”
Research from financial services website Square said 45% of Brits are planning a staycation next summer with Cornwall, Devon and Blackpool among the favourites.
Head of UK partnerships Nick Harris added: “With staycations on the rise this summer and into next year, it will provide a much-needed boost for UK businesses.”
Budget hotel Travelodge said the number of Brits taking a city break has more than doubled from last year and it expects that to continue in 2020.
Trend forecaster Stylus revealed UK flights to various key holiday destinations, such as Turkey, are already cancelled going into autumn.
Director of consumer product Emily Gordon-Smith added: “We’re still not seeing a return to overseas vacations at the levels we experienced pre-pandemic.
“That, coupled with ongoing trepidation about forward booking anything involving foreign travel is making the staycation an increasingly popular and prudent choice and is a trend we see sticking for some time.”
The dull August weather could be replaced by a September heatwave, with temperatures reaching 25C in parts, forecasters said.
