Brits fans think Harry Styles performance was for Caroline Flack

Harry Styles sang a heartfelt ballad on the Brits tonight, with many viewers thinking he was thinking of his ex-girlfriend Caroline as he sang it.

Harry took to the stage dressed all in white and sang his new song Falling, looking highly emotional as he sang out the track.

The former One Direction star paused at the end of the song, suggesting he might make a statement about Caroline's tragic death, but he remained silent.

However many viewers watching the show thought Harry was singing the song for his former partner.

EG said: "You could see the pain in Harry's eyes and the fact that he must be emotional over the passing of Caroline just made that performance even more heartbreaking."

Hayley said: "Have a feeling Harry was thinking and singing his heart out for Caroline."

Ewan said: "This performance is dedicated to Caroline isn’t it"

And Dominick Saunders said: "Harry Styles looking a bit emotional performing here, great performance if he wasn’t it felt like he was singing it for Caroline Flack fair play."

Harry, 26, looked sombre as he made his entrance at London's O2 Arena just three days after the tragic news was confirmed.

On his brown blazer Harry wore a black ribbon, believed to be a symbol of remembrance or mourning for Caroline.

The former One Direction star was a close friend and former boyfriend of Caroline, who took her own life on Saturday at her flat in north East London - reports Mirror Online.

It was previously reported that Harry would continue with his performance at the star-studded ceremony following the tragic events.

The singer is so far yet to speak out publicly on Caroline though his mother, Anne Twist, has paid tribute to the TV star.

Anne took to Twitter on Saturday morning to post: "Heartbreaking #ripcarolineflack".

She later retweeted: "Nobody should be made to feel like they don’t belong on this earth , nobody! Nobody should be made to feel so frightened and bereft of options they decide to take their own life."

Caroline was 31 and presenting The Xtra Factor when she started dating Harry, then 17, a contestant on the main show with One Direction.

She defended their relationship again in her autobiography Storm in a C Cup: "In the entertainment industry nobody asks what age you are.

"I’ve never felt I was much older than Harry anyway.

"I still feel 18 and probably act that way half the time — all those years in kids’ telly probably didn't help…

"We were both single, we got on well and we had a laugh."
