Brits could be allowed play golf, tennis and go fishing from next month

The British public could be allowed to play certain sports again from next month.

Tennis clubs, fishing lakes and golf clubs will be allowed to accept punters from June, the Daily Mail reports.

The sports are on a draft list of activities that may be able to resume as the summer begins, if their hosts can do so safely.

Golfers will be told to stay two metres away from each other on the links and club houses will remain shut.

They may also be limited to playing against one other person and to using their own clubs only.

Tennis matches might only allowed to go ahead if played between members of the same household, with gloves required on court to stop virus transmission via ball handling.

Outdoor exercise classes may also be given the green light to start up again, along with open air-swimming.

A source told the Mail that certain sports will only be allowed to go ahead if coronavirus cases continue to fall and a second spike continues to appear unlikely.

As it stands, people are only allowed out of their houses once a day to exercise for 'as short a time' as possible.

A Downing Street spokesperson said that an easing of outdoor activities would be considered at a review on May 7.

Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, has raised the idea that people could meet up in small groups outdoors.

When asked about her suggestion, the government spokesperson said: "Broadly the scientific and medical experts have been clear that there is is less likelihood of transmission of this disease outdoors than indoors.

"That will obviously be something we are considering as part of the review."

Boris Johnson is expected to unveil a roadmap for how Britain will be eased out of the lockdown on Sunday.

In a bid to downplay expectations, the Prime Minister has said that the country must pass five tests before the next stage of the coronavirus effort can be entered.

These are:

  1. The NHS has sufficient capacity to provide critical care and specialist treatment right across the UK
  2. A sustained and consistent fall in daily deaths from coronavirus.
  3. Reliable data to show that the rate of infection is decreasing to manageable levels across the board.
  4. Operational challenges including testing and PPE are in hand with supply able to meet future demand.
  5. Confident that any adjustments to the current measures will not risk a second peak of infections that overwhelms the NHS.
