Brits complain London's New Year's Eve fireworks were ruined by so much smoke

Brits complained that a huge smoke cloud ruined London's New Year's Eve fireworks display.

TV viewers took to social media to complain about the thick smoke obscuring the spectacle.

More than 12,000 fireworks were involved in the bonanza, which London's Mayor Sadiq Khan earlier branded as the 'best ever' display in the capital.

@fitzmoskal tweeted: "Who else is watching this London Smoke Display? Were there supposed to be fireworks?!"

@CheesyApricot added: "The London fireworks are good and all that but you can't see naffink with all the smoke anyway."

Another Twitter user said: "What was that big puff of smoke display which was a supposed to be fireworks in London for NYE?"

In the UK, London's show featured 12,000 fireworks, including 2,000 fired from the London Eye on the River Thames.

Big Ben chimed for the first time in a year, ringing out 12 times to mark the start of the New Year at the sold-out event.

Around 100,000 revellers packed into the streets around Victoria Embankment.

The show celebrated London’s role in hosting this summer’s international football tournament.

The capital will host more fixtures than any other city.

Seven of the competition’s matches are set to be played in London, with Wembley Stadium scheduled to host the final and semi-finals.

“Footballs coming home” blared out as the Baddiel, Skinner and Lightning Seeds’ favourite accompanied the spectacular show, followed by The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army and classical hit Nessun Dorma.
