Brits banned from visiting Greece when country re-opens in June

British holidaymakers will not be allowed to visit Greece when the country loosens restrictions next month.

Greece will begin accepting foreign visitors from 29 countries from June 15 but the UK has not made the cut.

The 29-strong list, announced today (Friday 29), includes: Albania, Australia, Austria, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, Japan, Israel, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lebanon, New Zealand, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Norway, South Korea, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Finland.

The UK does not appear but the Greek Tourism Ministry has said the list will be expanded to include other countries on July 1.

Visitors to Greece will be able to arrive in the country on direct flights to Athens and the northern city of Thessaloniki only, and could be subject to sample coronavirus testing, the ministry said.

Greece has had a total of 175 deaths and just over 2,900 confirmed cases of coronavirus. No cases have been reported on the majority of the Greek islands.

The UK currently has 269,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 37,837 people have died.

Advice from the UK Government remains that Brits should not travel abroad unless it's absolutely essential.
