Brits across UK celebrate end of 2021 in style at pubs and bars on New Year's Eve

Brits up and down the UK are celebrating the end of 2021 in style on New Year's Eve after a second year dominated by Covid.

For the last two years running, people have been unable to celebrate new years due to Covid restrictions.

However, this year, despite rising case rates, there are lighter restrictions in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland and none at all in England.

This comes after another difficult year during the ongoing pandemic, with many still stuck in isolation.

Added to that, the new Omicron variant, despite being milder, has pushed the UK towards record case rates.

Despite that, the vaccine programme continues to reach hundreds of thousands a day and many remain optimistic that the pandemic will finally become endemic in 2022.

Everyone will be eagerly awaiting the new year and hoping that 2022 will bring something brighter.

The London fireworks will be going ahead for the first time in two years.

And due to restrictions in some nations and not England, many from Wales and Scotland have took the trip to England to welcome in 2022.

This comes as the UK has reached record high Covid cases on consecutive days, hitting over 180,000 new cases in 24 hours.

However, that hasn't stopped thousands up and down the UK from Newcastle to Birmingham and London and Bristol celebrating in style.
