Britons stick to gendered chores despite thinking it is outdated

Six in 10 Britons say they and their partner still have set chores despite most couples believing gendered jobs are outdated, new research has found.

Men are most likely to take the bins out or cut the grass, while women take charge of the washing up and laundry, according to a survey of 2,000 people.

However, 74 per cent said they believed the idea of certain household jobs being for men and others for women to be old fashioned.

The data, from appliance manufacturer Indesit, also found nearly three quarters of women feel they bear the brunt of household chores, compared to just 35 per cent of men.

Psychologist Dr Emma Hepburn said: “This unequal division in the household may cause increased pressure and stress which can lead to tension or arguments.”
