Briton sets record for helicopter flight in US

A Briton who was one of the youngest Royal College of Music graduates has set a world record for flying a helicopter solo through the 48 contiguous US states.

Yosuke Chatmaleerat, 28, spent just under 12 days battling high winds, freezing rain, dense fog and turbulence at heights of up to 11,000ft.

The former Londoner, who has dual British and Thai citizenship and now lives in Florida, spent a total of 90 hours in the air, over a series of 250-mile legs, each taking two and a half hours.

He said the weather was the biggest challenge.

The pianist entered the Royal College aged 14.
