Britney Spears’ team has pushed back on fresh claims about her behaviour during a recent dinner outing, after reports circulated online alleging the pop star was acting “erratic” and holding a knife in a restaurant.
In a statement shared with media on 14 May, Spears’ representative said the situation had been “completely blown out of proportion”, disputing viral accounts of the night.
“Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard,” the rep said.
“She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbours. At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife.”
They added: “She was cutting her hamburger in half. This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous and it needs to stop now.”
The response follows a series of claims that began circulating this week, including a post from entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider, who wrote on X that he had been dining near Spears and described the experience as “WILD”. In a follow-up post, he added, “She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke….”
TMZ later reported that Spears had allegedly been “screaming” and “barking” while dining at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, with one customer claiming they saw her walk past holding a knife.
The reports come during a period of personal change for Spears. Earlier this month, the singer shared on Instagram that she was on a “spiritual journey”, writing, “I’m so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey … all a blessing in disguise”.
It also follows her recent legal matter in California. On 4 May, her attorney Michael A. Goldstein confirmed that Spears had accepted a plea deal related to a March arrest, stating, “Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change.”
For now, her team is firmly rejecting the restaurant narrative, framing it as another example of scrutiny that has long followed the singer’s public life.
