Britney Spears' staff 'took dogs away over neglect fears' sparking 'battery' claim

Britney Spears allegedly got into a violent confrontation with members of her staff after they took her dogs away.

The singer's housekeeper and dogsitter reportedly became concerned that the dogs were being "neglected," so the dogsitter kept them after taking them to a veterinarian.

It's claimed that Britney was convinced that her pets were being taken by her father Jamie Spears, who recently stepped down from her conservatorship after Britney pleaded with a judge to remove him from the order.

The housekeeper accused Britney, 39, of striking her, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Britney's lawyer Mathew Rosengart denied the allegation, calling it "nothing more than an overblown alleged misdemeanour".

Concerns over the dogs' safety began around a fortnight ago when one of the dogs became ill, TMZ reports.

The dog reportedly became sick and the housekeeper took that dog and Britney's other dog to the vet.

Britney's dogsitter, who is also a nurse, kept and took care of the dogs because she believed they weren't safe at Britney's home, it's claimed.

The popstar is said to have called the police to report a theft on August 10, but when cops arrived at her home she backed off and sent them away.

The report claims Britney was prepared to file a theft report over the dogs but apparently had a change of heart.

By Monday, Britney reportedly didn't have her dogs back and confronted her housekeeper about it.

The housekeeper is said to have expressed concern that the dogs had been neglected and showed Britney photos she had taken on her phone of one of the dogs that had just thrown up.

Britney reportedly believes the housekeeper, who is paid by her dad Jamie, sent Jamie the photos and he then called the dog sitter and told her to take the dogs away.

TMZ said Jamie is "totally in the dark on what goes on in her home," adding, "He's been shut out."

Britney is said to have become extremely upset and told the housekeeper she was not allowed to take photos in her house.

She's then alleged to have knocked the phone out of the housekeeper's hands.

The report said she merely hit the phone, but law enforcement sources say the housekeeper alleged Britney struck her arm, which then caused her to lose her grip over the phone.

As of Thursday, it's claimed Britney still hasn't had her dogs back.

The housekeeper filed a battery report with the Ventura County Sheriff's Dept. and the agency is investigating.

A Sheriff's Dept. official told TMZ that when the investigation is complete the file will be sent to the District Attorney to review for a possible misdemeanour battery charge.

Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor, hit out at the allegation, said in a statement given to NBC News: "This is... nothing more than an overblown alleged misdemeanour involving a 'he said she said' about a cell phone, with no striking and obviously no injury whatsoever.

"Anyone can make an accusation. This should have been closed immediately."

The Mirror has contacted a rep for Britney Spears and is currently awaiting comment.
