Britney Spears’s father Jamie requests singer pays his $2m legal fees, documents claim

Britney Spears’s father Jamie has filed a request asking the singer to pay his nearly $2m (£1.45m) legal fees.

The singer’s life has been controlled by a court-ordered conservatorship since 2008, with her father in control of both her financial and personal affairs before stepping down from the latter role in September 2019 due to health reasons.

He was temporarily replaced by Jodi Montgomery.

Now, according to legal documents seen by Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday (31 March), Jamie is asking Britney’s estate to cover the costs and fees required by his attorneys

Her father is also asking for approval of financial compensation for his time as conservator from 1 November 2019 to 28 February 2021. These costs include $16,000 (£11,600) a month plus $2,000 (£1450) for monthly office expenses.

The Independent has contacted Britney’s representatives for comment.

It comes after Britney’s lawyer last week asked an LA judge to permanently remove her father from his role overseeing her personal affairs.

Her attorney, Samuel D Ingham III, said that Britney wanted Montgomery, a professional conservator, to be permanently appointed and have her father resign from overseeing her personal life.

Public interest in Britney’s conservatorship was renewed earlier this year following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

On Tuesday (30 March), she finally addressed the film, writing on Instagram: “I didn’t watch the documentary, but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in... I cried for two weeks and, well... I still cry sometimes !!!!”
